NY Sumi-E Society

NY Sumi-e Society (NYSS), founded in 1990, is a local affiliate of the Sumi-e Society of America, Inc. (SSA), a national non-profit organization founded in 1963. The mission of NYSS as well as its parent SSA is:

  • To foster an appreciation of East Asian brush painting as well as the techniques and materials used in this art form.
  • To create an art bridge between East Asian and Western cultures.
  • To facilitate the exhibition of sumi-e artwork in public and private venues.
  • To conduct educational activities consonant with the educational aims of SSA namely, lectures, demonstrations, workshops, exhibitions, excursions to museums and to network with cultural and art institutions.
